Default Advice on integrating a mailing list manager?

First, let me say great work!

My organization needs the subject line of distrobution email tagged with the list name. I understand that Zimbra currently does not allow this. Can anyone offer advice on how to intergrate Mailman or Majordomo so that it will work with Zimbra and my virtual domains?

    Thanks

    Default mlmmj

    Mailing Lists Manager Made Joyful
It's based off of ezmlm but made to work with any MTA. I had set it up with M1 release, I didn't do a whole lot with it, but I know it was working with the few tests I did. It was extremely simple to install, but it may be to simple for what you are looking to achieve.

Hi, would you please tell how you configured zimbra and mlmmj to work together. I just installed mlmmj successfully and initiated a new mail list under /var/spool/. I have added the appropriate command to /etc/aliases and I can recieve automatic mails from test mail list. But when I tried to send a mail to mail list, the mail bounces back to myself and eventually get returned to the sender.

What could be the problem here?

What I did was setup a mailing list manager (I used sympa, but any would probably work this way) on a separate host (virtual machine, actually) called lists.domain.com. Then we standardized on list names such that any mailing list would always end in -list. So, for example, if I want a list for the IT department, it's called it-list@domain.com.

Then, on the mta machine, I created a file in /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/canonical containing these lines:
    /^sympa-request\@domain\.com$/ sympa-request@lists.domain.com
    /^(.*)-list\@domain\.com$/ ${1}-list@lists.domain.com
    /^(.*)-list-(request|editor|owner|subscribe|unsubscribe)\@doma in\.com$/ ${1}-list-${2}@lists.domain.com

Then I ran the command: postconf -e 'canonical_maps=regexp:/opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/canonical'
    and
    /opt/zimbra/bin/postmap /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/canonical

This means that any mail that reaches our MTA with the address it-list@domain.com gets forwarded to it-list@lists.domain.com. The forwards work no matter how many lists you have and don't require you to muck about with aliases or extensive postfix hacks on your zimbra box.

    Good luck.

Is there anyway to accomplish what you did without the use of a virtual machine or another box?
Can you run sympa/mlmmj on the same box that zimbra runs on?
I would also like to implement a mailing list for a couple domains and am looking at possibilities.

    thanks for the post.

    Hi

I could not manage to get to a working configuration without using two different machines (virtual or not). Here is why (in my humble understanding):

    From this post:
    http://www.zimbra.com/forums/adminis...man-howto.html

    Requirements:
This ONLY works if Zimbra's postfix is able to deliver mail locally. One thing you should note is ALL the domains added to Zimbra are by default 'virtual_mailbox_domains', so if your hostname is set to be one of the virtual mailbox domains, Mailman will NOT work for you.
From this I get: Hostname of the machine that zimbra runs must be different from hostname of the machine mail manager runs.

No matter how many different ML managers I try, I always hit the same wall.

If anyone can help with this subject, I also would be grateful.

    Thanks
