Are there any errors in /var/log/zimbra.log at the time you should receive the mail?

I see there are problems reported about LDAP and certificates, but I wouldn't have thought that would stop receiving mail. Anyone got any ideas?

    Default time out

Your postfix connections are timing out to
    hawk.forcev.net[80.177.206.39]

Is this the IP of your host, or do you have the MX records pointing somewhere else?

    Default

My MX records are pointing to the right IP, but I've just double checked and it's showing as mail.forcev.net and not hawk.forcev.net.

There be the problem? Sorry for the dumb sounding question, but I'm just starting to get my head round the whole mail system setup

    Default hostname not impt

    THe hostname isn't important.

If that's the correct IP, is that IP configured on the host, or is it forwarded/firewalled in some way?

Can you telnet, from the postfix host, to that IP (NOT HOSTNAME) on port 25?

    Default

The server is NATed behind a firewall, the server has a 192.168.x.x address.

I can telnet to port 25 from an external network and the server without issue.

Default Receiving Mails Problems dns lookups

I've been attemtping to get zimbra opensource beta 2 working on a Red Hat enterprise rel 4 update2 that is installed in a DMZ. The dmz interface has a non routable address and the firewall has all of the appropriate ports open including 25 and 7025. When I turn dns lookups on in the server admin mta window I'm able to send mail to wherever I want, but I cannot receive mail. Turning the dns lookups off allows me to receive mail but not send it. The hosts table has the localhost.localdomain set at 127.0.0.1 and mail.xxxxx.org is set to 172.xxx.xxx.xxx. The external routable address is only set in dns. The zimbra.log indicates a failure of lmtp when dns is on and no failure when it is off.

We need some direction as to how to set zimbra to handle this.

The zimbra.log indicates a failure of lmtp when dns is on and no failure when it is off.

We need some direction as to how to set zimbra to handle this.

Zimbra appears to be doing the correct thing, with DNS lookups turned on - the issue seems to be a network problem.

With DNS lookups on, postfix attempts to connect to the public IP on the firewall, port 7025. Can you verify that this is allowed by the firewall, by telnetting from the postfix box to the public IP (NOT HOSTNAME) on port 7025? It's not uncommon for firewalls to refuse connections from internal addresses to public IPs.

Not sure how or why, but I rebooted my firewall after an upgrade and all appears to be working. All mail being delivered and sent!

    Thanks for the help marcmarc
