Default All messages deferring, can't read why in admin interface

    Hi All,

I'm on Zimbra 5.0Beta3 (upgraded from a 5.0Beta2 install - which was the inital install).

Our mails have started deferring and I can't find why. It doesn't seem to be the usual reasons listed in the Mail Queue Monitoring section on the wiki, as /var/log/secure shows that connections have gone through fine.

This is on CentOS 5. The install has always said the stats failed to start (since the Beta2 install), but in Beta3 it also says that antivirus has failed, but a ps ax shows that clam and freshclam are running.

Looking in the maillog each time I try get the deferred details I'll see this message.
2007-09-19 15:28:29,204 ERROR [{RemoteManager: snail.fluid-pictures.com->zimbra@snail.fluid-pictures.com:22}-zmqstat deferred] [] rmgmt - error when scanning mail queue deferred on host snail.fluid-pictures.com
    java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "1190207315 627181"

Thanks for any help. If anyone knows a way I could get these mails to come through until the issue is properly resolved that'd be great too, as the mail is quickly backing up.

    Cheers,

    Alan.

    Hi Bill,

Yes - the ssh daemon is running - /var/log/secure shows that the ssh connection goes through fine and lists the commands the zimbra runs, then shows the connection closing.

    Cheers,

    Alan.

I just tried running the first command zmqstat myself as the zimbra user and got this error message
    Can't chdir to /opt/zimbra/postfix-2.4.3.3/spool/incoming at /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmqstat line 182.

running the fix permission script throws a lot of errors here - what should the permissions be for that directory?

EDIT: thought I should add more details on the fix permissions thing - run as the zimbra user it doesn't have the required permissions, run as root it complains that chown: cannot access `/opt/zimbra/apache-tomcat-*': No such file or directory

    Cheers,

    Alan.

Have a look in /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log and see if there's a longer error, you should also check this Mail Queue Monitoring page for some tips.

The script zmfixperms should be run as root, did you?

    Hi Bill,

Yes - I've run the script as root, even tried commenting out the line that generates the tomcat error. I've also been through all the tips on the Mail Queue page. The main failure message I'm getting in the logs is the virus scanner. Saying it can't connect to port 3310. Though I guess I've not been looking in the right place as I've not found why it says that.

    Cheers,

    Alan.

Is the virus scanner not running? What does 'zmcontrol status' show? Have you tried a reboot?
    Regards

    Bill

Ok - so I took a guess that it's not delivering because of the antivirus failing. And rather than risk letting a virus go through it's blocking. So I disable antivirus on the server (we're mostly linux here anyway so the risk isn't as bad).

Now the mails seems to be delivering. Though I've still no idea why I can't see anything in the mail queues when I try look at them, but at least we've got mail going.

    Thanks for the help, Bill.

    Cheers,

    Alan.

    Hi Bill,

The virus scanner is running, i.e. shows up in ps ax, but zmstatus says its not. Haven't been able to figure out why.

I have rebooted a few times, but the error persists.

EDIT: Just rebooted again to be sure. No improvements in any of these issues. Though the deferred mail is still slowly going through (with antivirus disabled) at least.

    Cheers,

    Alan.
