    Default [SOLVED] zimbraMailAlias attribute question

    Is there a command to add an mail alias to a user using zmporv? I'm in the process of migrating 800+ users to zimbra from our existing Mercury/Pegasus mail system. I have setup zimbra using the Split DNS guide on the wiki. My problem is that the merucy mail server does not allow the redirection of mail for individual users like i can perform in Zimbra with the zmprov ma <account> zimbraMailTransport. To work around this I have created an additional domain on the ZCS server and assigned an alias to users as they are migrated. I then create a forward file on the Mercury Server for the migrated user and mail is forwarded to the Alias address. Once all the users are migrated I will remove the aliases and delete the additional domain. I was hoping that there was a way that I could bulk provision the mail alias for all the users that I have already created, in order to save time. Otherwise I would manually have to edit each user account.

    I have 2 domains for all my users, so I create the account and the alias through a script. It's ruby code but you get the idea.

    Code:
    zmprov ca #{user}@bexp3d.com #{pass}
    zmprov aaa #{user}@bexp3d.com #{user}@bog3d.com

    Yup it's simply:
    Code:
    zmprov aaa user@domain.com AliasDesired@domain.com
    If it's not too late now, you could have done some domain-wide alias/forwarding options from here: ManagingDomains - ZimbraWiki

    Thank you both for the advice.

    mmorse, I looked at the managing domains wiki. I have already created my alias domain. Can I modify this domain to add the appropriate attributes or do I need to delete the domain and re-create it from scratch?

    Thanks again!

    You can keep it - any command you run would have an 'md' modifyDomain instead of 'cd' createDomain

    Mike,

    Thank you for the Domain-wide tip! It works like a charm. One question though is the alias domain does not appear under the Manage Domains section of the Admin UI. What command would I use to delete it once the migration is complete?

    To put in a null value it's usually quotes or single ticks:
    zmprov md domain.com zimbraMailCatchAllAddress ""
    zmprov md domain.com zimbraMailCatchAllForwardingAddress ""
    zmprov md domain.com zimbraMailTransport lmtp:server.domain.com:7025
