Default Not cluster, just two servers

I'm not very thrilled with the RHCS requirements. Is it possible just to setup two servers (clusmail1 and clusmail2) and point them to shared storage, such as a gfs filesystem? Then I could use two MX records possible load balance between them?

I know it's a little more involved than that, but does the concept work? Has anyone tried this?

I'm not sure this is exactly what you have in mind, Doug, but you might give this thread a read because I think it may accomplish your same goal.

ZCS/RHCS clustering is not related to horizontal scaling. If you have more than about 3000 users, what you want is

No need to invent your own multiplexing scheme.

No, GFS will not perform reasonably, but neither is it needed.

I should have been a little more specific in what I was asking.

Right now we only have about 50 users. I'm simply trying to come up with a way of doing HA. I wouldn't have a problem doing a RedHat Cluster, but I don't have the equipment to do the power control.

I would prefer to get our two servers working together off the same storage (load balancing with round robin DNS and two MX records), but if that's not possible I simply want to get it so that we have an standby backup.

    Why ?

Where does this "3000 users" limit come from ?

There are other fencing devices you can use : IPMI, DRAC (for Dell servers), ILO2 (for HP/Compaq), SAN-fencing, etc
