You know, Bill, it's interesting what obvious things we overlook sometimes. . .if I do du -h on /opt/zimbra it's only 3.8 GB, but on /backup/zimbra it's 8.2 GB. Obviously, something is not working right on my rsync.
I based my rsync commands in the backup script on the command reference in the man page, which states that -a is equal to -rlptgoD; hence the fewer letters.
I took a closer look at the man pages and the command for delete should have just been "--delete" not "-e --delete". The result is my old junk wasn't deleting. I just tried the rsync at command line using
and my /backup/zimbra went right back down to the same size as /opt/zimbra after deleting a WHOLE lot of junk.
rsync -avHK --delete /opt/zimbra/ /backup/zimbra
So the problem was in my rsync syntax--and the embarrassing thing is that it's already correct on the wiki page (I think it's my writing) and I had it wrong on my own server. . ..
