Default [SOLVED] No POP access by users

I don't know if this is a configuration problem or not. Zimbra seems to be working flawlessly via the web UI. However, I can't figure out how to get anybody to connect via POP.

The server has a handful of virtual hosts. Zimbra 4.5.10 GA running on CentOS 5. I have POP over SSL (port 995) open on the firewall. e-mail client: Thunderbird

This is the error I always see:

Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server responded: invalid username/password.
In the Thunderbird server settings I have
    Server Name: Port: 995
    User Name: myusername
    Security Settings
    Use secure connection:
    [ ] Never [ ] TLS, if available [ ] TLS [X] SSL
I may be blind, but I don't see any documentation about this.
    Thank you!

    No, it was not.

After I changed it for both IMAP and POP, I figured out how to restart the server. I still had the same error message as before with Thunderbird, but I saw a different error while trying to use IMAP via Apple Mail, so your suggestion did make a difference. Thank you.

The other thing that I figured out is that the user name has to have the full e-mail address, for example instead of user. This is different from using the web UI... but it works!

Thank you for helping get past this blockage.
