Default Move OPT folder in VAR

I have zimbra open source ed. 4.5.10 GA installed on SLES 10 and working fine. at the time of installation i have created partitioning as follows

    20 GB as /
    1.5 TB as /var ( RAID VOL)

now i have space problem as my opt folder is resident in root

shell i move opt folder in VAR and make symlink in root called opt.

    dose it will work. ???

    any help will be appriciated.

    Thanks,
    Yukari !!!

I've not tried it, but I can see no reason why a symlink of /opt -> /var/opt would not work. It should be transparent to the zimbra processes.

Unless one of the buildmasters knows better, I'd say it's fine, go for it.

symlinks are a bad idea, can cause all sorts of problems. I vaguely remember.. ah yes here:
    http://www.zimbra.com/forums/install...failed-os.html

try doing a loopback mount instead:
mount -F lofs /var/mount.opt /opt (solaris syntax, think linux is different)

Hmm, ok, symlinks are bad in this case then; good to know. I had a hunch someone may know more about this than I. I wonder if it's worth having the installer script sanity check for a valid /opt before it starts?

Well I'm batting 0 for 2 here, so I think it's time to go home and get some rest!
