Default [SOLVED] IMAP periodic polling not working

    Hello,
First of all I must congratulate all contributors behind Zimbra for the fanastic work. Amazing product!

I have an installation with the Open Source Edition 5.0. running on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS
I have some external pop3 and IMAP accounts. I managed to get pop3 to be retrieved periodically with:
    [zimbra@zimbraqa1 ~]$ zmprov mc default zimbraDataSourcePollingInterval 60

This does not however retrieve the IMAP accounts. And I wonder if anyone have a solution? (I can manually retrieve the IMAP account from the webclient)

    Best regards

Any chance that the account or data source overrides zimbraDataSourcePollingInterval with a different value? You also may be hitting this bug:

Bug 21197 - data source: auto polling doesn't retry if the first attempt fails.

Hello and thx for the reply.
The polling interval variable was not changed. I did a:
grep NameOfMyImapAccound mailbox.log.2008-01-09 and all that was mentioned of the Imap account were the get mail started by clicking the get mail button. All the pop3 accounts did get a scheduled task in the log but not the IMAP. So it can't be bug 21197 either.

    Best regards

Was the IMAP account created on 1/9/08? If it was created earlier you'd have to check the earlier log archives.

Search your logs for "Importing data" and make sure you don't see a line like this for your IMAP account:
    Code:
    2008-01-09 14:00:22,520 INFO [ScheduledTask-3] [name=xxx;mid=23;ds=Gmail;] datasource - Importing data.
If not, try updating the polling interval to a new value:
    Code:
    zmprov mds <user@domain.com> <IMAP account name> zimbraDataSourcePollingInterval 30s
Then check the logs a minute later and see if it started working.

    Hello,
Setting polling interval on the specific account made it work!

Is there a way to cancel polling on a specific account when not needed anymore?

    Best regards

Glad that worked for you. To cancel polling, set the attribute value to an empty string ("") or 0. Keep in mind that zimbraDataSourcePollingInterval gets inherited from the COS to the account to the data source. If a child object sets the value to "", it inherits the parent's value. If it sets the value to 0, it's turned off no matter what.

Let me know if you continue to see problems with this feature. I'm still concerned about why polling never worked for you when it was set on the COS.

    Thanks again for all help.
I found another user who were added after the upgrade to 5.0 with an pop3 account that I had to start manually. The IMAP account were added to an existing user. All external accounts created after the upgrade failed to follow the cos. With only two accounts I know it's not rock solid proof but it's the easy connection....

Ok. Keep an eye on it and follow up if it stops working in the future. So far I've only seen polling stop working due to bug 21197. If this is a different problem, we'll need to come up with a reproducible test case in order to fix it.
