    Default [SOLVED] Tomcat not starting

My customer have been running zcs-4.5.3_GA_733 without problems for almost a year now. Suddenly today, tomcat refuses to start up.

    I have:

    1) Checked the host file
    2) fixed the permissions with zmfixperms
    3) repaired the raw_logs table in zimbra_logger
    4) disabled imapproxy
    5) checked that no other services are using the zimbra ports
    6) read and tried tons of forum posts and possible solutions
    7) set the heap size to 5

    Still, tomcat wont start

zimbra.log says nothing, except postfix complaining about:

fatal: Queue report unavailable - mail system is down

the other logs says nothing at all. catalina.log is empty.

    Any ideas?

It's difficult to tell what you've tried from that description. What happens if you telnet to port 25 on the server? Which operating system is this? What's changed, has the user done any software upgrades to the server?
    Regards

Port 25 is active, and I get Zimbra's postfix server. Op-system is Debian 3.1. No upgrades were done. The box is dedicated for Zimbra alone and haven't been touched since its first installation.

netstat -nlp return that the following is up:

amavis, master (postifx), both the mysql services, clam, sldapd and the spell server.

Only the two web interfaces 6680 (my web client interface) and 7071 (my admin interface) aren't up.

    zmcontrol status returns:

    Host <mailservername>
    antispam Running
    antivirus Running
    ldap Running
    logger Running
    mailbox Running
    mta Running
    snmp Running
    spell Running

    tomcat stop returns:
    /opt/zimbra/bin/tomcat: line 146: 10568 Quit sudo ${zimbra_home}/libexec/zmtomcatmgr threaddump
    Terminated

    tomcat start returns:
    zimbra@mail:~$ tomcat start
    Error: tomcat already running

zmcontrol stop runs through all the services until it reaches mailbox, then ends with "Terminated"

What else can I post that will be of use?

    Solved it:

After running strings against the zmtomcatmgr executable, i found that it accesses the file:

    /opt/zimbra/log/zmtomcatmgr.pid.

which was blank. So i removed it, and it started tomcat again.

It seems the zmtomcatmgr tool does not handle blank pid files correctly.
