Default [SOLVED] Mail failing for servers with no A record

    ZCS: zcs-5.0.2_GA_1975.UBUNTU6.20080130235804
    os: ubuntu 6.06LTS

I am having problems with postfix not sending emails from the zimbra server to any server with no A record.

Examples of such servers can be accessed via:

    Code:
    dig stonebow.otago.ac.nz
    dig stonebow.otago.ac.nz MX
    dig otagodhb.govt.nz
    dig otagodhb.govt.nz MX
An example of a server that works sending email is:

    Code:
    dig hotmail.com
    dig hotmail.com MX
I have DNS lookups in the server tab unchecked

    Any ideas

turning off dns lookup is whats causing your problem. turn it back on.

that did fix it - I turned it off a few days ago because the mta couldn't connect to itself to deliver the messages to the inbox - doesn't seem to be a problem now - not sure how I fixed that but at least the mail is sending out

DNS checking blocks a lot of spam. I have simply chosen to leave it on and contact the admins of improperly configured servers (or DNS thereof).

If someone puts a mail server up they should take the responsibility to learn to do it right.
