    Default Upgrading zimbra AND ubuntu

    Hi all,

I'm planning to upgrade my zimbra server. I have two tasks in order to do it :

    1. Upgrade ubuntu 6.10 to 7.10
    2. Upgrade Zimbra Community ed. 4.5.3 to 5.0.

I see plenty of docs to achieve this goal but I don't know if I have to upgrade the OS *before* zimbra or the opposite.

Do you all have suggestions for me ?

    Thanks for your help.

Personally I would take some good backups first, and then upgrade the O/S.

Ensure that your current ZCS install is working okay, and then upgrade ZCS taking more backups as you go through each upgrade.

FYI http://files.zimbra.com/website/docs...quirements.pdf still shows the only supported Ubuntu release as 6.06... I ran it on Edgy and had a few problems, forcing me to "downgrade" to 6.06LTS . The basic steps were:

-Make a cold backup of Zimbra

-Format the machine and install new Ubuntu version

-Install the version of Zimbra you are using now with the -s option (software only)

rm -rf /opt/zimbra (should be a fairly empty directory already, but remove it)

    -Restore backup to /opt/zimbra

-Run installer for the version of Zimbra you are using now ("upgrade" when asked)

    -Verify that Zimbra works properly

-Shut it down, perform Zimbra upgrade using new version installer

-Start it up, verify it works

    -Shut it down, backup again

uxbod : understood. Is there any things I have to do to backup an external storage ? I defined in zimbra that it must use an external storage. I suppose the backup should include this one ?

Your backups should include /opt/zimbra and any external storage you are using. Was the external storage defined as a mailstore within ZCS ?

Definitely And it is the main storage, in fact.

Then backup the lot better to air on the side of caution when performing any upgrade.
