Default [SOLVED] User Can't Log In???

I am perplexed by this one...

We are currently running Zimbra Collaboration Suite 4.5. I have a user who came to me and said that she cannot log in to her e-mail account.

Here's the thing--when I try to log in using her username and password, it fails. Reseting her password doesn't make a difference. But get this, when I update her account name by taking a letter away from her username in the admin console, I can then log in using the revised username and her old password.

For some reason, her account just doesn't want to work with the original username. Can you think of any reason why this is happening? Any way to correct without permanently changing her account name?

    Welcome to the forums

Any funny characters in the username ? Have you checked your Log Files - Zimbra :: Wiki for error messages ?

    Uxbod,

It is nice to hear from you! I hope you don't mind the ignorance of this newbie!

The username is straightforward: nine alphanumeric characters in length (first initial + last name).

In the log file mailbox.log, I find the following error message:

    2008-05-08 09:10:12,764 INFO [http-80-Processor94] [ua=ZimbraWebClient - FF2.0 (Win)/undefined;ip=90.0.0.70;] SoapEngine - handler exception
    com.zimbra.cs.account.AccountServiceException: authentication failed for user@email.server.com

    Does this help?

Are you using any external authentication for user login?

I checked with my manager and he mentioned that he has added external authentication with our PDC. Thank you for figuring it out!

The likelihood is that your external authentication is failing for some reason. If you wish to have the authentication fallback to the Zimbra LDAP then run this command:

    Code:
    zmprov md domain.com zimbraAuthFallbackToLocal TRUE
That will, of course, require the passwords to be kept in sync. There's currently no facility in Zimbra to do that but there's an RFE in bugzilla if you'd like to search and vote.
    Regards
