    Default problems with domain name

Hi all, Im using zimbra NE 5.0.5 and I receive a mail from an internal server, the name of this server has an underscore "_" is like this xxx_xxx.domain when zimbra receives mails from this server give an error and delete the mail without deliver it.
I need that zimbra can get mails from the domain with underscore in the name.

This is the error log, I changed the original names of the user and servers.

I believe underscores in domain names, according to RFC1035, are invalid. You should be using a hyphen (-) instead.

These problematic hostname is being caught by the reject_invalid_hostname parameter in the Postfix config. You could try removing it from your config, although this may end up causing more problems than it is worth. See:

Zimbra MTA - Zimbra :: Wiki

The real solution is to get rid of the underscore in the name, because ultimately that system will have a similar problem delivering to any standardly configured Postfix server (and who knows what else).

Yes, I know it, but this client has this server since a lot of years and it is the server central, and nobody want to change anything in it.
I need to get a solution from zimbra server.

Personally, I would educate these people of RFCs and get their naming convention correct. It will not work in the outside world, so why internal

Just to add the problem is not Zimbra server but the Internet in general

You are right, but this server only send mail internally, this is the core server of this client, is an AIX server, nobody know about it, I cann't modified anything there.
Is for this reason that I need to get a solution from zimbra server.
I run the command "zmprov mcf zimbraMtaRestriction ''" to quit the restriction "reject_invalid_hostname" but it doesn't work.

Does the Zimra server have a NIC on the same subnet as the internal server? If so, you could add the ip of that server to the trusted networks. If the non-RFC server only has a private NIC and the Zimra server only a public NIC, this won't work.

Default "_" problem in domain name

    Hi all,

I am having the same problem of "_" in domain name. But in my case, the mail server domain name itself has an underscore. I am adding a Zimbra mail server for internal mail purpose in an existing network. Currently main domain name is (names changed) "domain_name.xxx.gov.xx" and I have named the new Zimbra mail server as "mail.domain_name.xxx.gov.xx".

No mails received when I send an email using the Zimbra web client, instead I could see the following error message in the zimbra log file:
(Please look at the attached file for detailed log trace)

"status=bounced (host mail.xxxx_xx.xxx.xxx.xx[xx.xxx.35.9] said: 501 5.5.4 Syntax error in parameters (in reply to MAIL FROM command))"

It would be difficult to change the main domain name to remove the underscore from it.

    Any help????

    Thanks in advance.

    Mani.

    Welcome to the forums

Why would it be difficult to change the domain name if it is on a internal network ? As previously discussed in this thread more issues may come to light if it does not follow the RFC.
