    Question SMTP - Zimbra

I know Zimbra has its own SMTP, but if I'm using an ISP I get an error from the domain I'm sending the email to, for example if I send an email to user@gmail.com I get an error from gmail saying:

I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not
be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below.

For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster.

If you do so, please include this problem report. You can
delete your own text from the attached returned message.

    The mail system

    <user@gmail.com>: host gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[74.125.45.27] said:

550-5.7.1 to send email directly to our servers. Please use the SMTP

So I would like to use my SMTP server to send emails.

    Any suggestion???

You can set your own MTA or the one from your ISP as RelayHost:

    Setting a relay host
Set the relay host in the admin console, MTA tab to point to your ISPs outgoing mail server. Your ISP can tell you the proper value for this. You may have to set the port, as well.
    Code:
    zmprov ms server.domain.com zimbraMtaRelayHost external.relay.com:#
from: Outgoing SMTP Authentication - Zimbra :: Wiki

Works quite well for me. My Zimbra Box uses another Postfix Box in my Network to send out Mail to the Net. The Second Box is configured to use my ISPs MTA as a RelayHost.

I tried it and now instead of an error all I get is a deferred message on the server, nothing is going out.

    Any other suggestion?

    Question

    I just noticed something:

When Zimbra is installed, it sets zimbraSmtpHostname to the server where it's installed, can that be changed to an external server?

    Thanks in advance.
