    Default About email message Tracking tool

    We normally receive and send out email easily...

    Sometime the email got stuck or disappear the user don't know... They also don't the reason why the email undelivered...

    As an administrator, I think we need to tracked those undelivered message , so we can identify the causes of the problems...

    May I know how a message can be tracked? Has any command line tool can trace? Is it Zimbra has such function?

    If yes, can the tracer tool show current location of the message, whether it is acknowledged by the mail server or is still in the queue?
    What fields are searchable for message tracking purpose?
    [So far I know is the MessageId is unique]

    Full details of the server it went tto and the response of that server can be found in the log files.

    It looks like this functionality has disappeared in Zimbra 6.04 (zmmsgtrace is missing)? Is that correct? Can someone confirm? This is very useful.

    As a potential RFE... It would be nice to be able to track what happened to a particular message after it hits a mailbox. Like if it gets discarded via filter or filed away via filter.

    OMG! One of the most important tracking tools has been removed ;-) No delivery receipts and read receipts in web client... and now zmmsgtrace removed... No comments.

    It looks like there there's still a "Trace messages" description in the Zimbra command line reference, but it is pointed to by a duplicate of "zmmypasswd".

    This is strange. There must be SOME solution.
    On CLI zmmsgtrace - Zimbra :: Wiki we can read "Beginning with 6.0, the CLI zmmsgtrace is no longer available and there is no planned replacement."
    So, what do you people do when someone claims he/she sent a message to your colleague and you must verify that?

    As Bill stated in 2008, you review the logs. You can look in:

    /var/log/mail.log
    /var/log/zimbra.log
    /opt/zimbra/logs/mailbox.log
