Default New admin seeking some help

Well I'm new to this gig, so I'd like to make sure I'm doing this right, as I have had some problems.

I have the latest Zimbra and SpamAssassin release.

I added a few file like local_drugs.cf to the /opt/zimbra/conf/spamassassin directory in hopes that this would stop the spam coming through. Is this the right directory to put these rules in?

Also, When my spam comes into my user's mailbox it looks like [SPAM]

If I want to change it to **SPAM**, what file do I use to change that?

Thanks for the help in advance!

In the same dir is local.cf. Change this line:

    # rewrite_header Subject *****SPAM*****

    Be sure to restart after.

"In the same dir is local.cf. Change this line: # rewrite_header Subject *****SPAM*****"

That's part of the issue. I read online and there are multiple places to put everything. One walkthrough says /opt/zimbra/conf/salocal.cf.in, one says /opt/zimbra/conf/spamassasin/local.cf.

    I have changed local.cf to

    rewrite_header Subject [**SPAM**],

but those changes dont seem to take place after I restart Zimbra.

    $ zmprov gacf | grep -i zimbraSpamSubject
    zimbraSpamSubjectTag: **POSSIBLE SPAM**

Try changing that. use zmprov mcf ...

OK thanks, I have found a file that I think is the correct one.
It's located in /opt/zimbra/conf and the filename is amavisd.conf

    Does that sound right?

Then, a secondary question. I have all of the .cf files that I have created in
    /opt/zimbra/conf/spamassassin

Can I override the header change in each of those files? Im curious because I want to see how many SPAM my local filters catch. So my local file would be local_drugs.cf, i.e. inside that file I did rewrite_header [SPAM]localdrugs, that way I could tell if my rules were working?

Thanks for all the help btw!

You don't need to. If it is spam, the SA can input the rules into the header that contributed to the scoring. And also it could be the combination of different rules rather than a single one that determines the final score.

Cool, thanks. Any chance on you knowing how to just restart the spamassassin, rather than having to restart zimbra as a whole?

    Default zmamavisdctl

i edit salocal.cf.in and amavisd.conf.in and that works for me

you could also train spamassassin by marking each email as junk

to restart spamassassin without restarting everything

    su zimbra
    zmamavisdctl stop
    zmamavisdctl start
