    Default CPU/Memory Issues Ubuntu 8.0.4

    Hello all,

I'm having a problem with my install. I am trying to migrate from Communigate to the Zimbra paltform but keep experiencing a lot of CPU spiking and out of memory errors. I have captured the last event below.

    About my system:
    -ESXi 3.5 update2(patched) (2) 3.08GHZ CPUs with 4GB memory
-Runs around 15-20% on CPU utilization

    The VM:
-1 VCPU with 512MB of memory
    -2 mailboxes beyond the defaults
-Remote ISP SMTP server for outgoing mail

I got all the install issues worked out and the system was working last night. I does seem to be slow at times, but I'm working remotely so I can't be sure were the slownesss is.

At any rate the system crashed again this morning with a "out of memory" condition for all kinds of services. Looking at the logs I found that it started with a java invoked condition. Since there was a memory error, I checked my VM stats, but never saw the memory get anywhere close to be fully utilized. It never touched "ballon" memory on the VM either.

I see where it claims to be out of swap memory. What swap memory is this refering to? This obviously looks like a memory leak of some sort. Any ideas what to doo next?

    Welcome to the forums

According to the requirements document 1GB of RAM is the minimum ZCS will support.

It would be useful aswell if you posted which version of ZCS you are running.
    Code:
    su - zimbra
    zmcontrol -v

    Thanks for the quick reply.
Really.....hummmm. Ok, but I deal with bloated requirements (no offense, just how things are ;-)) every day with applications. I really need 1GB of memory for 2 - 4 user system? I have never seen the VM request more than 258MB of memory. Obviosly I'm a virtual kinda guy so I'm keen on trimming the fat where I can. ;-)

Are there any config vars or settings to help reduce these requirements for smaller systems?

    My Version:
    Release 5.0.9_GA_2533.UBUNTU8 UBUNTU8 FOSS edition

Thanks for you reply and great work on a cool product.

Hey uushagy, did you ever find a fix to this problem? I've got the same thing, running under vSphere and Ubuntu 8.04. I keep upping the RAM (6G) and number of CPUs (6) but the described problems are still occuring.
