Default draft folder marked as unread incorrectly

We have been using Zimbra Collaboration Suite, with the Zimbra web interface as well as Thunderbird, in our office for over a year. Ever since the Zimbra server was installed, we have had a problem with the Drafts folder not correctly reflecting unread status or, sometime, content number. This happens with everyone's account.

Everything I read says it can be fixed by expunging (compacting) folders in T'bird but this isn't working for us after repeated trials. Is there any other way to correct the problem?
    Thanks,
    Anne Marshall

From the admin panel you could try re-indexing the mailbox.

The count next to the Drafts folder is the number of drafts, not the number of unread messages.

Yes, I understand that is the number of messages, not unread messages, but we have had cases where that number was incorrect. That is not the case at the moment with any that I know of. I did see it often, however, right after we installed the new server a year ago.

The real issue now is that it always shows unread messages even when none are present.

I just finished reindexing my own account per your recommendation. It had no effect on the status of the Drafts folder- still shows 'unread'.

In the Thunderbird interface, right-click drafts, and then select compact.

If the number next to the Drafts folder is not the same as the number of messages in that folder, Thunderbird has failed to clean up its \Deleted messages. Either "Empty Trash" in the Zimbra web client (which also cleans up after Thunderbird for this very reason) or do what lcxe says:
In the Thunderbird interface, right-click drafts, and then select compact.
