    Default LDAP authentication

    Hi@all,
i have two general questions concerning LDAP:

    1) i configured external LDAP for authentication and my question is: where does Zimbra save all the information of this user like his mails etc. do i have to configure an "internal" account for each user, or does this happen automatically?

    2) if i install the Zimbra LDAP-schema on an external LDAP-Server, how do i tell zimbra to use this server as an "internal" external server?

    thank you for your help!

    greets,
    Michael

    1) Yes, you need to configure an 'internal account' The external ldap is used only for checking the username and password. The internal side determines where your mailbox lives and so on

    2) $ zmlocalconfig | grep ldap
ldap_host and ldap_master_url are the values.

Be careful in what you are doing. Theoretically there should be no reason why you cannot install the schema and use an 'alternative' ldap server rather than the one provided with the zimbra package, but I would ask if it is really really necessary.

Ok, thank you for your help.

Is there no possibility to "automatize" the process of copying all the accounts into the internal LDAP-Server? I am talking of about several 100 of entries here.

If I understand the account information is all ldap so you should be able to do a mass ldap import (LDIF). The adding of the accounts is not what takes time, it is the migrating of the actual mailboxes that is time consuming.
