Default [SOLVED] Successful Mail Delivery Report

Hi.

Thanks again for all you help.

this question may be stupid - but I can't find where to deactivate it.

Every time a user send a mail with attachment, they get an email telling them that the mail was successfully delivered.

95% of my users are non english speaker and believe that this message are an bounce message. This is very anoing, since they started to calling me every 5 minutes asking me what is going on with their mails.

Please tell me where I can deactivate this message or at least where I can translate it.

Regards

Are you sure it is coming from your server and not the remote one ?

yes.

The mesage are like this.

This is the mail system at host mail.domain.com. (my server)

Your message was successfully delivered to the destination(s) listed below. If the message was delivered to mailbox you will receive no further notifications. Otherwise you may still receive notifications of mail delivery errors from other systems.

The mail system

<user@domain.com>: delivery via (my user and domain)
mail.domain.com[111.222.333.444]:7025: 250 2.1.5 OK

Any way to disable this.

Anyone know how to fix this.
I get constant complains about these messages. They are generated by zimbra.

Some ideas:
-A thick client with sent confirmation/delivery confirmation/read receipts turned on?
-Seems odd that it's just with attachments unless going through a scanner somewhere causes the DSN not to work. (Of if it's getting marked as spam and there's a cutoff level for not sending DSN's that it's hitting because of the attachments.)
-You could create a custom bounce.cf for postfix in your language.
-Does this only happen when you email external addresses or does it also happen for internal accounts?
#The success template is used when mail is delivered to mailbox, when an alias or list is expanded, or when mail is delivered to a system that does not announce DSN support.

success_template = <<EOF
Charset: us-ascii
From: MAILER-DAEMON (Mail Delivery System)
Subject: Successful Mail Delivery Report

This is the mail system at host $myhostname.

Your message was successfully delivered to the destination(s) listed below. If the message was delivered to mailbox you will receive no further notifications. Otherwise you may still receive notifications of mail delivery errors from other systems.

The mail system
EOF

Thanks Mmorse.

Guess we wrote at the same time, sorry.

It happens with internal users as external destinations.
At first I thought that it was only with mails with attachments but it happens also with html mails and most of my users has the company logo in their signature. (maybe the it's sent like attachment or the attachment thing has nothing to do with it).
I have a script that sends clear text emails to external destinations and those mails does also get this report.
Did I accidently turn of dsn support, where can I check that out.
The only filtering I'm doing before the mails getting to the mail server is my firewall that removes some attachments but nothing else.
Strange thing is that not everyone are receiving these messages, but some of those who do get them has the read confirmation turned on.

Till you can dig some more you might:
cd /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/
cp bounce.cf.default bounce.cf
Edit & change the body of the message to a shorter 'email sent' that they can understand or use your language.
postconf -e 'bounce_template_file=/opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/bounce.cf'
postfix reload

Have a read of Postfix DSN Support

Thanks Mmorse.

I checked some of the usr with problems, some of them had activated the read and delivery confirmation, but others had neither of them activated, and still gets them.
I have not changed the postfix or sendmail configuration, it is all default by instalation.

I'm really stuck here, it might be something stupid causing this, but I'm kind of lost.

I'm feeling a bit stupid now, but I'm going to describe the problem anyway.
Mayibe it can be useful for other out there.
The problem was never the zimbra server, the server just did his job.
We knew that our mail server was about to die, so we had made an new server with zimbra zcs. we where testing it, and programmed a migration to the new server to 3/12. The old server crashed last thursday and I had to do an emergency migration to this new server. The old server didn't support delevery report and many users had this option activated, other users while they are sending new mails marks the option read report and delievery report ignoring the difference between this two options. This was never an problem before beacause the old server didn´t support these options.

Sorry for bothering you with these problems

Regards.
