    Default Zimbra WONT RESTART

I opened the server status then closed it and could not restart it.

I don't know anything about linux except some extremely basic stuff.

A guy set this up for me and left about a year ago.

So in desperation, I had the mx pointer repointed to another location so I could get my emails but I'd like to get zimbra going to get all my past emails and stuff.

    Can anyone help?
    Joe

    Default Version

What version of Linux and zimbra are you running.

    Logon to the Linux terminal.

    enter:

    su - zimbra
    zmcontrol -v

    Post the results.

    Default Didn't get any response

    Bill,

Thanks for your suggestion, but I don't know where to run the su etc.

Can you tell me what directory I should run that in?

    Joe

PS I would have responded much earlier but for some reason I couldn't log on until now. It wouldn't recognize my password.

You need to log onto the physical zimbra server as root and then perform the commands that Bill has provided.

Don't worry about it banderson...the gang here in the forums is really good about guiding new Linux users. I barely know what I'm doing too! Anyway, log into your Zimbra server so that you're at the command line. From there you should be able to do the command

    su - zimbra
    zmcontrol -v

You'll get some output that shows your Zimbra version plus your OS version. Copy those and paste it into your profile here in the forums.

The version will help us help you more specifically, but you could also:

connect to a root terminal session
    su - zimbra
    zmcontrol stop
    zmcontrol start

Then attach some error snips from the bottom of /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log or zmmailboxd.out & /var/log/zimbra.log

A good way to watch errors in real time is if in another terminal while you zmcontrol stop/start enter:
    tail -f /var/log/zimbra.log
