Default [SOLVED] zmmailboxd won't start after adding memory

When going from 6gb to 8gb memory I see this in

    zmmailboxd.out:

Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Could not create the Java virtual machine.

reverting back to 6gb for now, but I'd like to know how I get around this problem ?

How do I go about tweaking this so it will work ?

    Regards

    Jeroen

Are you using a 32 bit OS ?
You didn't specify your ZCS version, in the old releases usinf tomcat the problem was related to the percentage of memory reserved to tomcat.
I think in jetty there is something similar...

    Code:
    su - zimbra
    zmlocalconfig -e mailboxd_java_heap_memory_percent=30
    zmcontrol stop
    zmcontrol start

    Thanks,

Can you explain to me what exactly the effect of this is ? I understand that If i allocate less memory in % it should function again, but why doesn't it work in the first place ?

    Regards

    Jeroen

Are you running 32 or 64 bit OS ? It is all down to the maximum addressable memory range.

I am running 32bit at the moment.

heap is set at 40% right now, which would be 3276mb running at 8gb mem.

I thought i would be safe as long as i stay under 4gb ?

From what I have read I would try setting at 37%. Overheads etc.
