    Default Installation Issue

I'm running the standard installation of Zimbra, and I run into this message:

    Code:
Address unconfigured (**) items or correct ldap configuration
When I've installed before, I never had to do anything other than set the administrator password during the configuration. Why is this coming up now? Also, if it makes any differences, I'm doing this installation on a virtual machine which is hosted on my own physical computer. That's the only thing I can think of that is different from any other installation I've done.

Any ideas why this is coming up?

Upgrade or new installation? DNS problem with the A & MX records?
    Regards

New installation. I was unable to resolve my domain, but that has happened before during test installations, and I was still able to complete the installation. What's the difference now?

The difference is you need valid A & MX records resolving to your Zimbra server (you always did) or the install doesn't finish.

In my previous installation, I didn't have a valid A & MX record because when it tried to resolve, it gave an error. It still let me complete the installation. Now, it's saying that I need to correct my LDAP configuration.

How can I find out what the LDAP configuration is on my other server, so that I may compare it to this installation?

EDIT: I did a 'host ldap-hostname' on both machines, and they gave the same output.

    Physical server with zimbra installed:
    Code:
    root@mail:~/zcs-5.0.11_GA_2695.UBUNTU8.20081117052520# host ldap-hostname
    ldap-hostname.pdadmin.com has address 208.69.36.132
    Host ldap-hostname.pdadmin.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
    Virtual server without zimbra installed:
    Code:
    root@zimbraVM:~/zcs-5.0.11_GA_2695.UBUNTU8.20081117052520# host ldap-hostname
    ldap-hostname.pdadmin.com has address 208.69.36.132
    Host ldap-hostname.pdadmin.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

The install will not complete without valid A & MX records pointing to the Zimbra server, when you fix that your install will work.

I understand, the only issue with that is it will mess up our current working email server that we are using until we move over to zimbra. I've successfully installed zimbra on my physical machine without having an A & MX record, as I've said.

Is there a reason that you can think of that it would be different this time, looking past the valid A & MX records? I haven't done anything different than I have in past, other than trying to install it on a virtual machine.

Yes, the difference is that we check for vald DNS records. If you are installing another server then use a different FQDN and DNS records for the test server.

The physical machine that has zimbra fully installed doesn't have any A or MX record. What effects do A & MX records have when I'm receiving an LDAP error?

EDIT: I changed the Hostname and the LDAP master host to match each other. I had zimbraVM.domain.com for the Hostname, and zimbravm.domain.com for the LDAP master host, and when I made them both zimbravm.domain.com (lowercase), it let me proceed with the install.
