    Default Fetching mails from a remote server

    Hello,

    I tried to look that within this forum and in the admin guide but didn't see anything related to this. (Maybe i've skipped some part)

    I would like to fetch mails for my LAN users from a remote server. (retrieving these mails and have them sent to respective mailboxes).

    Sorry if this question have already been catered for ... send me a link to the related info is that's the case.

    Cheers

    You can use fetchmail for this.

    Sorry, just seen a sticky about fetchmail regarding something similar from what i want. Can i run fetchmail alongside Zimbra ? I thought that postfix (installed with the zimbra suite) could be configured to do something like that within Zimbra ?

    Yes, if you need to collect mail from other (ISP) accounts then you need a program to do it - fetchmail gets the mail and delivers it to your local SMTP.

    No, Postfix doesn't do that. Postfix is a Mail Transport Agent and (basically) it just sits there waiting for a connection on port 25 from another MTA which will deliver the messages to it. Postfix isn't designed to fetch mail from some other system.

    Unhappy fetchmail and maildrop (external catchall)

    I've used fetchmail as described above to collect mail for specific users, but how would I collect mail from a pop3 catchall account and forward to zimbra to be distributed to local accounts?

    I've tried the following:

    Code:
    poll mail.example.com
        proto pop3
        user test@example.com password 'test123' to * here
    as well as:
    Code:
    poll mail.example.com
        proto pop3
        user test@example.com password 'test123'
        smtphost mail.mydomain.com
    Both fetch the mail successfully but never get delivered locally.

    Any ideas?

    Sorry if this is posted elsewhere in the forums but I couldn't find it in my searches.

    As always... Thanks!

    That's what i used in my fetchmailrc config file :

    //Beginning of fetchmailrc file
    set daemon 600 (polls server every 10 mins)

    //First user
    poll mail.example.com
    proto pop3
    user "user1@example.com"
    pass "example"
    is "user1@example.com"

    //Second user
    poll mail.example.com
    proto pop3
    user "user2@example.com"
    pass "example"
    is "user2@example.com"

    You must create your zimbra accounts first and the line "is "example@example.com"" is one of your zimbra accounts that you created.

    I don't know if it's right to do it like that but it works for me. I'm still testing the server anyway.

    Thumbs up fetchmail and multidrop (solved)

    OK,

    I've got it figured out...

    This worked...

    Code:
    poll mail.example.com localdomains mydomain.com
        proto pop3
        no dns
        user test@example.com password 'test123' to * here
    This will fetch all mail from the multi-drop pop3 account named test on the mail server 'mail.example.com' and forward them to zimbra for local delivery
