    Default Clustering question

    Hi guys!

I have some free time these days so i'm setting up a zimbra cluster just for the fun of it.

    A have one question though.

Server A is the one running nginx and behind that i have server B and C.

Server B and server C have 4 gigs RAM each. Does server need to be this size? Can it be a normal xeon with 1 gig RAM?

    Thanks!

Server A with NIGIX dont need to be really beefed up machine..

Server B and C..it all depens..if you have lots of IMAP/WEB mail connections and all AS/AV is running on those machines then you should have good ram..2GB works good on a decent traffic and number of users..but more ram the better.

you should run MRTG on the servers and see the real usage over time..if RAM is not getting used then take it out an dput into the sevrers which needs them

if you got 3 servers then you should have
MX/NIGIX/AV/AS all on Server A (you will require good machine then for A)
and Server B and C as Mailbox servers
to cater extra load all you need is add another MX when needed

    Awesome! thanks!

nginx proxies all calls, right? But that doesn't make all traffic go through server A? is that "proxying" that smooth that server A doesn't need to be a big server? A celeron with 1 GB could do it?

    Cheers!

All traffic DO go thru proxy (in and out) as far as i know i dont think so nginx is doing DSR (direct sevrer return) logic like load balancers.

if you doing just proxy but "nothing else" then yes..its all TCP/IP traffic ..just like a firewall and based on your network card it can push a lot of traffic using decent hardware.
