Question External users traversing multiple Distribution Lists

Hello, I'm unfamiliar with many of Zimbra's non-basic settings and didn't see anything related in the forums, so here's my question.

I have a lot of users that don't use accounts native (mydomain.com) to the mail domain, so I have individual distribution lists (DLs) set up for some of them that forwards the mail to their preferred address (e.g. gmail, yahoo, etc). For instance Bob uses bob@gmail.com, but I set up bob@mydomain.com to point to bob@gmail.com. I also have global DLs (all@mydomain.com0 that contain both native (mydomain.com) accounts as well as those individual DLs for external users.

When Bob sends an email from his gmail acct to all@mydomain.com, the email only arrives at the native mydomain.com accounts and doesn't go out to the individual DLs. If I send a mail to all@mydomain.com from my native account, it does reach everyone.

So, it seems like an external user can send to an internal DL, but that email is blocked from traversing any embedded DLs that point to external users. Is this correct and is there something I can do about it?
    Thanks much,
    charr

Distribution List is nothing more than email id with forwarding address set ( which might also be an external id ). I dont see any reason why it should be blocked us. What does your MTA logs say ?

I can't seem to get anything out of the logs that's useful. Here's a snippet, with email addresses changed. Let's say I'm bob@gmail.com and am sending to the DL at bob_gmail@mydomain.org which contains bob@gmail.com and jane@hotmail.com. The output in the zimbra.log seems to say the server passed off the message to bob_gmail@mydomain.org just fine, yet the recipients don't get the message. Am I missing something?
