    Question [SOLVED] SATA vs SAS SAN drives

    Hi All,

    When purchasing a SAN for zimbra which disk types do zimbra recommend
    SATA or SAS

    I guess RAID50 is the recommended RAID setup

    I would have said RAID10 (plus hot spares) as I believe RAID50 would still suffer from the same write performance problem that RAID5 does.

    RAID10 and lots of buffer cache would make more difference than SATA vs SAS, but that being said I was getting 400Mb/s in benchmarks on a SAS RAID 10 array on a local hardware RAID controller. This was on a new Sun server can't remember the model number. Thats gotta be the fastest sustained benchmarking figure I have see in a while. This was on writes. On reads it could sustain 500Mb/s.
