Default without reasons, attachment is gone

    Dear All,

one of our internal users encountered the problem when sending email with two attachment (PDF and MS Excel files, total size < 2MB) to several recipients, all recipients ONLY receive the the email body, the attachment was gone.

checking the maillog/zimbra.log/mailbox.log, there's nothing special as usual emails. and there's no any spam gateway or firewall equipment here, as well.

any advice how to track this kind of issue?

this is a ZCS 5.0.18, anti-spam and anti-virus services are both disabled.

    Thanks.

Any update on this? I have a few users having the exact problem. I dont see anything in the logs, that would indicate a problem. The attachment shows up on the senders sent folder. Not in the recipient.

At first i tought it was the file it self that is causing it (was an xlsx at first) but now it is doing it with numerous types)

I have not been able to get it to happen on new messages, only on forwards.

im on 5.0.18 as well, no anti-spam or av either

If the message is being stored with attachment in the sent-folder (This happens after the mail was sent) it is very likely that the recipients have some kind of filter or firewall in place which is removing the attachment.

You can check the /var/log/zimbra.log for the outgoing message. First search for the recipients E-Mail Address and determine the message ID.

Once you know the message ID look for a line like this containing the message ID:

    Code:
    postfix/qmgr[16955]: AB032C44EE7: from=<sender@yourdomain.com>, size=131925, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
If the "size=131925" is equal or greater than the size of the message in the sent folder I would believe that the message has been sent with attachment.

    HTH

ok, i've found out the reason why the attachment is gone.

please check my another post here, but not sure if it also applies to your case:
    http://www.zimbra.com/forums/adminis...-new-post.html

and in my case, it's the ".." which cause everything behind ".." are gone (includes email text and attachment).

Sure thing! The . marks the EOF in SMTP - This of cause isn't an issue if you're using the ZWC or any other decent MTA.

This begs the question of how was the email being sent in the first place? Is it being sent from the Zimbra web client (seemingly not) or from some custom script?
