    Default Extensive disk space usage

I have Zimbra Network Edition 6.0.4 up and running on a single server with two 145GB drivers in RAID1.
The server holds about 25 mailboxes, the size of each mailbox is ~ 1/2-1GB.

Recently I have noticed that in a very near future I will run out of space due to the fact that the size of /opt/zimbra/backup directory increases very fast and right now it takes more than 55GB.

Do you have any recommendations about how to handle the above issue?

    Thank you,
    Igal.

You need to think how you want to manage your backup.

To put this simple if you have 25G data and take backup from that without any compression you need another 25G disk-space for backups calculating up to 50G.

Thank you very much for the response.
    My plan is:

    1. One full backup every week
    2. Incremental backups between the full backups.
    3. Why shouldn't I compress that data?

I dont know what server hardware you are running, but if it supports commodity sata drives, I'd suggest adding a 1T drive to it, they've very cheap these days, and have that take the backups.

That way you'll not run out of space, and there'll be a slight reduction in load on the primary drives. It's no big deal if that drive fails, as it's only a backup anyway.

Note that beginning with 6.0, the default behavior of the backups is to zip them, which is different than with 5.0. With zip backups, you don't get to take advantage of shared blobs between backup sessions which bloats the amount of space needed. See:

I would start with compression. If that doesn't help, adding disks or disabling the zip option would be your two options.
