Default [SOLVED] Calendar always has wrong time

    Hi,

    Here's what's going on:

    1) Server set at GMT
    2) User can select timezones in calendar events
    3) Bottom left of Zimbra web client showing correct time (which is Atlantic)
    4) Calendar event is created for 7:30AM with Atlantic Time chosen
    5) Calendar shows event at 9:30AM
    6) Time zone changed to Eastern
    7) Calendar shows event at 8:30AM
    8) Time zone changed to Central
    9) Calendar shows event at 10:30AM (what!?)

I tried changing the timezone on the server. It had zero effect. So then I set it back to GMT and removed the user's option of selecting a timezone in calendar events. The result was that a 7:30 event shows up as 11:30AM.

    Then I ran
    Code:
    zmprov ga username | sed -n 's/^zimbraPrefTimeZoneId: //p'
which showed the user's timezone as Pacific. So I changed it to Atlantic with the following
    Code:
zmprov ma username zimbraPrefTimeZoneId "(GMT -4:00) Atlantic Time (Canada), Caracas, La Paz"
I then created a 7:30AM calendar event. It showed as 11:30AM again. I changed the user's timezone to GMT at a 7:30 event still showed as 11:30.

I have tried Firefox, Safari, and IE on OS X and WinXP. Same results. Any ideas?

    Regards,
    Doug

I don't know if you can set all user's timezone at once, but you can do it individually. Didn't make a difference though anyway.

It's entirely possible that I'm wrong on this, but I think the web ui pulls time from the local machine.

    This would make sense becasue:
    1) I just changed the time on my PC and it changed in the web ui
    2) If you are a large corp that spans time zones, then that would make the timezone function null on the server.

Try to set the time on the PC.

    Let us know.

You're right, it is supposed to set the timezone from your PC. But it isn't! It doesn't matter if I use my mac, my wife's pc, Safari, Firefox, IE. It is the same thing, 4 hours ahead. We're Atlantic time (even checked my router's settings) and the calendar events are set as if they were Pacific time (four hours behind Atlantic).

In fact, if I change a user's time zone to Atlantic via the CLI, once that user logs in his time zone is changed back to Pacific (checked via the CLI again). This happens regardless of OS, browser, etc.

    Can you run
    Code:
    zmprov ga username | sed -n 's/^zimbraPrefTimeZoneId: //p'
The post your log? (/var/log/zimbra.log) (/opt/zimbra/log/zimbra.log)

I wanna see if it's returning an error.

    Default See this thread

    See this thread http://www.zimbra.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2688
where KevinH concluded it was probably a problem with the "compare rules" in the Javascript code which tries to determine the TZ of the user's browser.

I haven't had a chance to do any further testing for the client who had the problem - they were running Version 3.1.1_GA_394.RHEL4 May 5, 2006.

I shall be upgrading them shortly to a later 3.1 version and shall report if the problem persists - it was a weird one!

Yeah, the problem is it doesn't matter what computer I use, what browser I use, or what OS. GMT -8 is always returned. Using $set:debug shows that too. I think it is some kind of server problem.

Has there been any resolution to this? I'm running 4.0.1 and have the same issues.

No, I did some debugging on it with version 3.1.1_GA_394 but I had hoped it might have been fixed in a later version

I'm about to upgrade the installation of v3.1.1_GA_394 to the latest version and I'll re-run some of the debugging tests to track down the problem.
