A vanilla 6.0.7 install works okay so when I hit this problem I took a LDAP backup straight after and compared it with the 6.0.6 LDAP. I thought at first it was due to me going from 32 -> 64 bit but that would not appear to be the case. The only way I was able to resolve the problem was to strip all the domain relevant information from the old LDAP and merge that into the new LDAP. I then used that file as the base for importing back into 6.0.7.

I'll try to track down the issue by disabling imap:

    Code:
    zmprov ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapBindOnStartup FALSE
    zmprov ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapSSLBindOnStartup FALSE
    zmprov ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapServerEnabled FALSE
    zmprov ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapSSLServerEnabled FALSE
If this is working we would have a temporary workaround, because we are disabling imap only. All other Services should be up and running.

    I'll keep you posted.

That's what my support case led to.

It works. Outlook, Blackberry BES (ZCB) clients are up and running to 95% of the population are happy. Blackberry BIS clients and vanilla IMAP clients can wait a bit

My ticket is escalated upstream so they can create / work on a bug.

so this is from a LDAP upgrade issue? that we need to disable imap before upgrading, does that mean my machine is a lost cause and I should just reinstall and restore the backup from the day before?

AFAIK you can do this on a machine where the upgrade has failed.

Assuming all things being equal with your case..

    Stop Zimbra. Then do this:

    Code:
    zmprov ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapBindOnStartup FALSE
    zmprov ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapSSLBindOnStartup FALSE
    zmprov ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapServerEnabled FALSE
    zmprov ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapSSLServerEnabled FALSE
Then start Zimbra. I think no re-execution of the 6.0.7 upgrade script is needed.

    zmprov won't work...

    [zimbra@mail ~]$ zmprov ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapBindOnStartup FALSE
[] INFO: I/O exception (java.net.ConnectException) caught when processing request: Connection refused
    [] INFO: Retrying request
ERROR: zclient.IO_ERROR (invoke Connection refused, server: localhost) (cause: java.net.ConnectException Connection refused)

Did you substitute `zmhostname` for your actual host name ?

You can solve that by :

    Code:
zmprov -l ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapBindOnStartup FALSE
zmprov -l ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapSSLBindOnStartup FALSE
zmprov -l ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapServerEnabled FALSE
zmprov -l ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapSSLServerEnabled FALSE
and restarting zimbra with zmcontrol start !

    OK I see the typo.

Here I am pasting the workflow directly from my bash history file:

    *as user zimbra*

    Code:

      530 zmcontrol stop
      531 zmcontrol start
      532 zmcontrol -v
      533 zmprov -l gs `zmhostname` | grep -i service
      534 zmprov -l gs `zmhostname` | grep -i imap
      535 zmprov -l ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapBindOnStartup FALSE
      536 zmprov -l ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapSSLBindOnStartup FALSE
      537 zmprov -l ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapServerEnabled FALSE
      538 zmprov -l ms `zmhostname` zimbraImapSSLServerEnabled FALSE
      539 zmcontrol stop
      540 ps auxww | grep -i zimbra
      541 zmcontrol start
      542 zmcontrol status
      543 zmmailboxdctl stop
      544 zmmailboxdctl start
      545 zmcontrol status
You can see the relevant stuff in lines 531-542.
