Default [SOLVED] Stop Zimbra form restarting.

    Hi all,

I recently installed Zimbra on my server for, initially, testing purposes and am already been faced with a difficulty.

How do I stop Zimbra from automatically restarting itself?

I've tried "zmcontrol stop" and "zmcontrol shutdown" but after a while zimbra always restart itself.

    Thanks for your help.

Zimbra doesn't 'restart itself' so what exactly do you mean by restarting? Is this a real server or VM, have you checked your server for RAM or HD problems? How much RAM do you have installed on this server?

    Phoenix, thanks for your reply.

Zimbra does restart itself, or some of the crontab entries it adds do it.

the server's power is of no relevance to the problem, when I issue a zmcontrol stop (or shutdown) all zimbra services stop successfully, but later on they are automatically restarted.

Now what is calling the zimbra to restart? is it the crontab entries under zimbra user? if so what is the standard way to completelly stop zimbra on a server? do I have to comment out all these crontab entries?

    thanks

Zimbra gets started from service. In Redhat there is this

setup that we run , where autostart is required to be unticked for zimbra service.

For Your Flavour of Linux u need to make corresponding Changes.

    Himanshu,

by "from service" you mean you type something like "service start zimbra" or "service stop zimbra", correct?

this is same as init.d script which is what I use to start/stop my zimbra.

Now when you say autostart, do you mean that it starts automatically when the server boots? this is not really my problem, this is something I can tacle by changing rc.d script. The problem I have is that even without a restart of the server zimbra restarts itself, which leads me to belive this is happening on a cron script.

    thanks

    kadu,
check the logrotate scripts for zimbra. I had zimbra start-up on a "backup server" over the weekend and it appears to be in part due to zimbra logrotate script. I'm still checking for other possible reasons.

on Redhat there is a setup program when executed it would list all the services that are registered. The one that are ticked start automatically , the one that are unticked do not start automaticaly.

    HI Jrefl,

Interesting point, I have moved the Zimbra logrotate scripts away. Let's see if that does the trick.

Further rearch, it not a full zimbra trigered by the logrotate script, but zmlogswatchctl, zmswatchctl, and zmmtaconfigctl are all run with a "restart" paramater. (zimbra 6.06 NE).
