    Default Change IP address

    Hi Guys,
I'm changing ISPs, and hence changing my Zimbra server's IP address and I'm wondering has anyone done this and if so, whether they have any tips.

    My plan is to
    a) Change the IP of the server (CentOS 5.5 x64) by editing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0; /etc/hosts and /etc/sysconfig/network for the gateway address
    b) reboot and check connectivity
    c) rerun the current ZCS installation script.
    d) Check that I can telnet in to the new address on port 25 from elsewhere
    e) alter my DNS MX and TXT (SPF) records.

I have DNS under control. I'm just not confident that ZCS won't barf when it discovers that its underlying IP network has changed.

    Thanks,
    Andrew.

That should work fine but with the following changes: I'd suggest when you get to step 'b' you should stop Zimbra from starting when you boot, then check your connectivity is OK; modify your DNS records and check they all return the correct information; you should, at this stage, just need to restart Zimbra and set it to boot at start if all is OK.

Thanks for your quick and accurate reply Bill. In effect I followed your advice as ZCS failed to start during my first attempt, before I'd read your reply. This was because slapd was trying to bind to the old address which it obtained from the yet to be modified DNS.

Once I'd correctly modified the DNS with my new and unfamiliar IP address, ZCS started fine.

    Cheers,
    Andrew.

    EDIT: spelling.
