    Default Is this a bug? A few questions ...

    I have 4 domains running in my instance of Zimbra (ZCS 4.0.0 GA/CentOS 4.3):

    host.domain1.com
    domain1.com
    domain2.com
    domain3.com
    I have an account user1@domain2.com.

    But when I did this:

    Code:
    $ mysql
    mysql> use zimbra;
    mysql> SELECT * FROM mailbox WHERE comment='user1@domain2.com';
    I got no results.

    Then I did this:

    Code:
    mysql> SELECT * FROM mailbox;
    and noticed an entry with the "comment" field "user1@host.domain1.com".

    I then checked the Admin section to confirm the account name. Yes, it was "user1@domain2.com".

    Then why does it display 'user1@host.domain1.com' in the mailbox table? Is this a bug?

    (I might have created the account user1@host.domain1.com first and then realized that it is user1@domain2.com that I want. And probably Edited it after it was created.)

    Where does the Admin section fetch its information regarding the name of account from?

    Is there some kind of map that maps the "comment" in the "mailbox" table of database "zimbra" to the actual account name as fetched by "zmprov gaa"?

    (I have also checked that all e-mails to "user1@domain2.com" are received by it correctly as expected).

    Too many questions ... :-)

    Regards,

    As a quick guess, I would think that 'host.domain1.com' is the original domain name you (or zimbra) created when you installed zimbra.

    Yes, phoenix. Guessed right.

    However, the confusion is:
    1. Where does "zmprov gaa" get its values from
    2. How does Zimbra know that the mailbox database for user1@domain2.com is "mailbox9".
    3. How does Zimbra know where to store the messages for user1@domain2.com

    (Until now I was assuming that the "id", that corresponds to the "comment" containing "user1@domain2.com" should be appended to "mailbox", to derive the name of mailbox database for "user1@domain2.com". But this is wrong because there is no "user1@domain.com" - there is "user1@host.domain1.com")

    Well, zmprov gaa gets it's values from the mysql database. Another guess, zimbra probably creates an index or alias for mailbox9 when the user account is created.

    I think, I got it.

    "zmprov gaa" must be getting the values from the LDAP.

    I just check the LDAP and found out that there is a field called "zimbraId" that contains the same key as contained in "account_id" column of "mailbox" table of "zimbra" database.

    I thoroughly checked the mailbox# databases and zimbra database but there is no place where "comment" is being mapped with delivery e-mail address.

    There is also a field in LDAP called "zimbraMailDeliveryAddress"...

    So, this is definitely a bug. (IMHO) - but harmless.

    Posted it as Bug 10727

    not a bug - the comment is for convenience, should not be depended on.

    You want to find something in the mailbox table, do this:

    zmprov gmi account@domain

    that gives you the mailbox id

    then in sql:
    select * from mailbox where id=whatever.

    Thank-you very much marcmac. I have changed the severity to "enhancement" in Bugzilla. Would it be better categorised as something else? Or is there no place for it?

    Changed the bug to INVALID because the comment contains the original email address associated with the mailbox, which itself is an enhancement.
