Default Ratelimit Sending Messages using Policyd

    Dear All,

I am Sorry to ask this question, because I am pretty sure it had been asked hundreds of times before, but I searched the forum, and I searched the web using google and I could not find the solution.

I need to rate limit sending email addresses per user account.

I followed Postfix Policyd - Zimbra :: Wiki article, It works fine for incoming email (mail from external domains to local users) and policyd logs show hits and update values for all external users.

My question is: how can I enable policyd to work against localusers?

    my /opt/zimbra/conf/postfix_recipient_restrictions.cf

    Code:
    reject_non_fqdn_recipient
    permit_sasl_authenticated
    permit_mynetworks
    reject_unauth_destination
    reject_unlisted_recipient
    %%contains VAR:zimbraMtaRestriction reject_invalid_hostname%%
    %%contains VAR:zimbraMtaRestriction reject_non_fqdn_hostname%%
    %%contains VAR:zimbraMtaRestriction reject_non_fqdn_sender%%
    %%contains VAR:zimbraMtaRestriction reject_unknown_client%%
    %%contains VAR:zimbraMtaRestriction reject_unknown_hostname%%
    %%contains VAR:zimbraMtaRestriction reject_unknown_sender_domain%%
    %%explode reject_rbl_client VAR:zimbraMtaRestrictionRBLs%%
    %%contains VAR:zimbraMtaRestriction check_policy_service unix:private/policy%%
    %%contains VAR:zimbraMtaRestriction check_policy_service inet:127.0.0.1:10031%%
    permit
    Thanks in Advance,

I'm also looking at doing this soon, so if you have found a working example, would love to see your findings thus far. Otherwise I'll post what I did once I've done the groundwork.

Does this help? Looks like this describes both how to turn on outbound mail tracking as well as how to configure a policy to limit outbound email either by number of messages or bandwidth -- all on a user- or domain-basis.

    Policyd : Accounting

Please update this thread if this helps and/or if you find better documentation.

    All the best,
    Mark

Unfortunately the accounting module isn't integrated until version 2.1.x by the looks of things, and we can only run stable releases in production (2.0.x).

What we have done for now to curb our outgoing spam is segregate our incoming MTA's from our outgoing MTA's and only our web/store boxes are allowed to connect to the outgoing ones. This has at least stopped spammers from using homebrewwed spam apps and scripts from authing and relaying in bulk through the machines, but we still get a few now and then using the web interface with compromised usernames/passwords. Really need to rate limit those, and tarpit them if possible. Experience has shown that the only way to deter the spammers is to make the experience painful enough for them to look elsewhere :P
