    Default Email problem

I have cleanly set up zimbra on a barebones Debian Machine. One simple problem. Mail send works from zimbra. Mail receive works to the debian machine. For some reason, if I use a local client (pine from the commandline) I see the mail. If I look in zimbra there is no mail.

So are you saying that you use pine to connect to the zimbra server and it sees the mail, you then use the web UI and you can't see the mail? Is pine (sorry, I don't know anything about it) using imap or pop3 to connect to zimbra?
    Regards

Pine is like mutt. Its a console line viewer. It is neither pop3 or imap. It access the local mail.

There is no 'local' mail with zimbra. Are you actually sure that zimbra is working OK? Are all the services running? Did the install go OK, were there any errors in the logs? If you can't see the mail with the zimbra web ui then it probably hasn't got your mail. Can you get into the zimbra admin ui? Does everything appear Ok there? Anything in the deferred queues?

Am I misunderstanding something about your configuration?
    Regards

the local system mail. I need zimbra for internal mail only. Its a workgroup server. Any mail sent to huhlig@rsng.local would remain on the server.

What you're describing doesn't make sense to me. If you send mail through zimbra (for a local user) it should go to another mailbox on the zimbra server which you then view with a mail client, it stays on the server - it doesn't go anywhere else.

When you said earlier that "Mail receive works to the debian machine" - which machine is that? Is this the zimbra server you're talking about?
    Regards

You can tell pine to speak IMAP to your zimbra server.
    Something along the lines of:

    inbox-path={localhost/ssl/novalidate-cert}inbox
    folder-collections="Local IMAP" {localhost/ssl/novalidate-cert}[]

yes but that doesnt explain why pine is seeing the mail and zimbra isnt. I used pine to find out where the mail was going.

Yes. This is one debian machine. Outside mail sent to the debian MX is received in the local queue. Mail sent from the debian MX is sent. Mail sent from debian to debian is recieved in the local mailbox. not the zimbra imap. And all of this is the same machine. with Zimbra.

How do you expect Zimbra to see this mail?
