Do you have the imapproxy and/or memcached installed? If so, disable as you really don't need those for single server installs.

Also, you said had 5GB of ram? That's kind of an odd amount. How do you have Java and MySQL configured? LDAP?

The proxy service is disabled - no memcached.
5G is odd but this server is 2 years old, and during that time was running FreeBSD without any kind of problems.
The zimbra server is authenticating in an external LDAP server (openldap) - no problems here. The mysql and java configurations are the default from a zimbra fresh install.

Your hosts file is incorrect, either check the Quick Start Installation Guide or the Split DNS 'Verify....' section fro the correct format.

DNS it's not incorrect, I changed the IP and name by **** in this output.
    This is a fresh install.
Please - everything is working properly except that after a random period of time the mailboxd stops responding - the error is:

javax.naming.CommunicationException: simple bind failed: server_IP:389 [Root exception is java.net.SocketException: Bad file descriptor]

Normally when the exception occurs the number of files opened by jetty process is above 1000 (ls -l /proc/jetty_pid/fd | wc -l).

what's wrong with the hosts file? looks like IP FQDN hostname. does loopback really have to have 127..1 localhost.localdomain localhost?
