Hey Bill, thank you for your answer and your link to the license! Hmm .. my english is not the best, and so it s hard for me to understand all the terms. The last hour (or two? Dont know ) I m fighting with them and my dictonary
So I ve some questions and I would very happy, if you could help me better understanding the license.
In general I can modify! OK. But I ve to follow some conditions.
"You are welcome to use, modify, and redistribute Zimbra
Collaboration Suite (ZCS) Open Source Edition free of charge, provided you
do so according to the terms of the appropriate License."
Is the meaning of "free of charge" that I have not to earn money with using or reselling the software or any modification - or is the meaning of "charge" like "accusation"? "No one will beat me if I modify the software"?
Which one is my appropriate License? How can I find out?
I assume it would be the ZPL, then I found a term
Ok, I think this is clear for me Dont touch any logo!
"3.2 - In any copy of the Software or in any Modification you create,
You must retain and reproduce, any and all copyright, patent, trademark,
and attribution notices that are included in the Software in the same form as
they appear in the Software. This includes the preservation of attribution
notices in the form of trademarks or logos that exist within a user interface
of the Software."
Hmmm ... I had the hope that it is handled like many other forums, wikis and so on. The Admin is allowed to replace the main logo at the top of the site with its own site-logo, but at the footer the copyright must be untouched.
For my comprehension a theoretic question:
modyfing is welcome. ok. Now, if I ve an idea and build up a "monster zimbra zip-zap thingamabob toaster" I m not allowed to change the logo and so my toaster is distributed only under the name of "zimbra"? Is that right?
Thanks for your help!
