Default Backup in Open Source Edittion

    Hi Dears,

Hope that you all are doing well.

I have a question regarding the backup in Open Source. I searched the wiki of zimbra and found that if you want to backup in open source just copy the /opt/zimbra directory. But i am not sure if my server crashed so should this work to replace the /opt/zimbra directory after fresh installation.

    Best Regards

    Zahoor Ahmad

There are details in the wiki & forums on how to do a Disaster Recovery, if that's what you're asking.
    Regards

I know very well if we would like to use all the functions then we should buy the Network Edition, and it is OK for me.

But in a lot of cases the FOSS version is more than enough, only the missing backup/restore function is the serious problem. It prevents a lot of companies to use Zimbra in production environment. This function in the FOSS version would be very nice feature in the future. Are there any chance?

In the meantime I have tested (on a test environment of course) the "hot" open source backup solution, here you can read the results.

After a full backup from the server "accidentally" we lost some accounts. They had calendars, shared imap folders, tasks and contacts. Fortunately we have also a restore script for this job. I used it. Everything looked fine but when the "user" logged in his/her account:

    - Mails were OK
    - Contacts were OK

    but:

    - No calendar events
    - No shared imap folders
    - No tasks

Who mentioned the Network Edition, I certainly didn't.

No, there isn't. If you want to search the wiki and forums you'll find the details you need on how to perform a backup of the OSS version.

Of course, nobody mentioned the Network Edition, and I just said that version is working fine but some companies have no the resources to invest to this version, only the FOSS.

Thank you for your answer. I will try and test the other solutions from the wiki. I have tried one of them but that's not working for me. I have checked twice it.

    Have a nice day.

    Hello zahahmad,

Here is the script linked from the Zimbra wiki. I will test it again during the day on my test environment.

    I have been using http://www.zimbra.com/forums/adminis...y-version.html

It works like a charm. After successful testing, currently being used in production environment too.

I have found an interesting problem with the backup mechanism.
When you try to backup mailboxes with the zmmailbox command and try to use getRestURL "//?fmt=zip" the script will not backup the Calendar and the Task module.

You can easily solve the problem with using getRestURL "//?fmt=tgz".
