Will I kill anything if I change the Zimbra user password? I just wanna be able to use rsync to scp/sync files that are owned by the user zimbra

Why don't you setup SSH login without password and passphrase?

It is more secure that way. At least, you don't have to hardcode your password as plain-text in the script...

But you can use a public/private key pair to authenticate with scp. Are you really sure to leave the zimbra account without any password?

Sorry, if I mislead. That's exactly what I intended to say. Not to leave Zimbra account without password.

I meant to suggest, to use public/private authentication in substitute of changing password for "zimbra" account and not keep passphrase protected private key - for completely pass*-free use of scp.

This was only for a one-off ... transfering from a 32 bit box to a 64 bit box... once the transfer was complete the 32 bit box was taken offline. Thanks for the input, it completed without too many problems.
