    Question Mail Account Failing

I have a mail account that was working fine. For some reason it has stopped receiving mail. I have checked the log files and see no errors in the zimbra.log.
I acts as if the mail was received fine, but shows nowhere.

Any ideas on what to do with this and how to troubleshoot it?
    Thanks

You need to give a bit more details than 'it doesn't work'. [QUOTE=Danielc1234;222002]I You should start by updating your forum profile with the output of the following command (do not post the output in this thread):

    Code:
    zmcontrol -v

Does the email arrive at your server? Does it get delivered to the user account? What information do you see in the log files relating to this user account and it's email? When did this account stop receiving email? Is it only this one account? Did anything happen to your server at, or around, the time this problem started?
    Regards

    Bill

    Thanks for the reply Bill.

I'm very new to Zimbra and have set up our mail server by myself, so my knowledge is very limited.

In the zimbra.log file the server does receive the mail and acts as if it forwards to the proper account. I have put a snippet of the log in which this transpires.

I really don't know how long this has been happening and we have had no major changes to the server, etc. It is more puzzling cause another email account using the same domain is working fine.

I have even tried to delete the account and re-create it, but still the same outcome.

Also, forgive me, but how do I run that vmcontrol -v command. I tried as the root command line, but got a command not found.

Are there any filters on this account or perhaps a forwarding address with no copy left on the server (you can check in the user preferences)? Does this account use have an email client and do they download mail from it via pop3? What happens if you send an email to this account from another local account?

Almost all the command for Zimbra are run as the zimbra user (unless you're told otherwise) and you do that by logging in as root then:

    Code:
    su - zimbra
    zmcontrol -v

Okay Bill, maybe going in the right direction.

I took off the forwarding option to allow the mail to stay on the zimbra's interface. We usually retrieve the emails via Outlook. I sent and email and it stayed and showed up in the zimbra's interface. And it now works in their Outlook. So is must be something going on with the forwarding option and 'not' keeping a copy on the server? I have this set on most of the accounts, where as we do not want a build up of emails left on the zimbra mail server.

Is there anything I should do differently?

The usual reason for having a mail server is to store copies of the email for the user (including adequate backup), one day they'll thank you after they've deleted important email. If this is for a commercial organisation then you may have regulatory issues that require copies to be kept.

Hard disk space is generally inexpensive, my suggestion would be to leave the mail on the server and possibly increase the space available for keeping the email.
