    Post Errors bounced

    Hi
    I use Zimbra 4.02

In Daily mail report i found
    "Errors"
    and many rows like this:
    2006-11-07 23:17:15 bounced (my-domain)

In my queues all is ok
    I receive and send mail
    What means this "bounced"?

That depends, it could be mail you've sent to a mail address that doesn't exist or it could be spam. Sending messages to the internet and letting them 'bounce' is another method of getting them into your system. If they're not your messages then just delete them.
    Regards

    Question

    Hi
    i know i'm late

I use a proxy smtp to send email so when my users write a bad address in To field, the proxy and not zimbra notifies the error

    i find this post http://www.zimbra.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4809
    and i did:
    0) su - zimbra
    1) chmod 644 /opt/zimbra/conf/zmmta.cf
    2) edit /opt/zimbra/conf/zmmta.cf and changed that option in this way:
    POSTCONF smtpd_reject_unlisted_recipient yes
    3) zmcontrol stop and start
so now email from internet send to wrong address in my domain are refused
but i continue to receive a lot of errors bounce and my queue in admin UI are clean
    can help me to understand?

What you're probably seeing is NDR spam, here a link to some information about the problem.

    Lightbulb Th Errors bounce finished!

    Hi phoenix th.

    Errors bounce finished!
    My sentece
but i continue to receive a lot of errors bounce and my queue in admin UI are clean can help me to understand?
    was wrong
I changed my configuration as i said but i had not pay attention that my errors was logged before my change even if i received the log the day after!

As i said i have a proxy smtp with callout function active
    Before to change /opt/zimbra/conf/zmmta.cf
    i had
    • many errors bounce
    • when an email was send to an invalid address in my domain the senders didn't receive any notification

    Now with the change:
    • su - zimbra
    • chmod 644 /opt/zimbra/conf/zmmta.cf
    • vi /opt/zimbra/conf/zmmta.cf
    • smtpd_reject_unlisted_recipient yes

It is the 4th log clean without error bounce

With your indication about NDR I think the errors bounce were due to external message with invalid address that came in my zimbra than as zimbra didn't find the account wrote a notification in reply so i had errors bounce
    I'm right?

Yes. Don't forget that the change you made to zmmta.cf will be overwritten when you next do an upgrade, you'll need to make the change every time you upgrade.
