migration of users or change server's rank
There is strong need to move existing 6.x on Ubuntu8.04 to Ubuntu10.04. But it is impossible to stop the production server for prolonged time: email exchange between the electrical power dispatchers is very important. They have PSTN and cellular phones, but some times the voice connection is worse than short email.
Here's a possible solution I found: to set up new server for same mail domain. Let existing server will be s1.my.domain and new one will be u2.my.domain.
I can set up u2 as additional server for multiserver configuration, but it is very unclear, how to:
1. move user's accounts from u1 to u2 with all their data
2. raise u2's rank to "master" and lower u1 rank to "slave" and then to remove u1 for good.
Users use only the mailing part of ZCS: they connect with pop3/smtp clients. Few of them, really, 5-6 men, tries to use web-interface and 1-2 learned calendar etc... Taking in account the possible move, I set up these clients to look for pop3.my.domain, smtp.my.domain, ldap..., imap..., mail.my.domain - via aliases in DNS. So, there should not be a big problem to direct users to u2, replacing alias destinations in DNS.
But many documents I read were too "foggy" for me, may be because of specific English language used there. Is there any simplified (may be even step-by-step) guide for my idea of migration to u2 without stopping u1?
