Default Can you "Close" a distribution list?

The "closed" account status can be handy to help clean up old accounts that may be lying around without actually deleting them from the server.

Does anyone know a way to use a similar command like "closed" to do a soft-delete on a distribution list instead of an account?

I do not want to actually delete the distribution list, I just want to put it out of commission for a while to see if anything is actually still using it.

You mean so that it doesn't receive any mail? Why not just untick the "Can receive mail" option?

I was unsure if unchecking "can receive mail" would:
    a. let mail still come to the list, but not pass it along to the users on the list. In other words, the list would receive mail, but not the users on the list. Then if I checked it again, the queued mail would flow out to the users.

    or

    b. cause any mail going to the list to just bounce back like the list did not exist.

I'm hoping it will be option "b".

As far as I know the answer would be b), I've just tried it and that would seem to be what happens. You can confirm that yourself by creating a test distribution list &(and perhaps a couple of dummy accounts) and run the test yourself.

"Option B" does appear to be the result, which works well for me.

    Thanks you for the assistance.
