Unhappy Zimbra 7.1.4 Ubuntu No server statistics

I have a two-week old single-server installation on an Ubuntu 10.04LTS image. Everything on the server is working beautiful, except the administration console has no server statistics and reports all services as down (X).

I see this is a very common question, and in looking through the threads I found nothing helpful -- either an old version or a different system.

I can't find enough information here to troubleshoot the problem.

Does anyone have a strategy for solving server statistics issues?

    Some followup ...

I see log entries being written in /var/log/zimbra-stats.log just fine.

It appears that syslogd is running fine with "-r -m 0 -u syslog".

Someone in another thread mentioned trying to connect to the syslog on port 514. I tried that with telnet, but got "connection refused." He didn't provide a command line for the connection, but mentioned UDP, so maybe telnet wasn't the right tool.

Just mentioning it since I know it'll come up... but you should have your complete Zimbra version string in your profile or the mods will nag you.

    Linky: http://www.zimbra.com/forums/profile.php?do=editprofile
(for some reason, the link to the "Edit Profile" page doesn't show in the User CP)

Back on topic... I'm struggling with the same issue on a Debian Squeeze box with the 7.1.4 GA release. The zimbra-stats.log file is certainly getting populated normally and the permissions for zimbra.log and zimbra-stats.log are 644, zimbra:zimbra.

If I do find a fix, I'll let you know.

Here's another link I'm not sure if you saw yet:
Logger (ZCS 6.0.x and later) - Zimbra :: Wiki

In particular, this part may be most relevant. Run these commands as the zimbra user, and post the data here:

    Code:
zmloggerctl status; echo $?; ps ax | grep zmlogger
    /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmrrdfetch -f zmmtastats
    /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmrrdfetch -c -f zmmtastats
    grep -w MTA /var/log/zimbra-stats.log
    tail /var/log/zimbra-stats.log
    zmsoap -z GetLoggerStatsRequest stats/@name=zmmtastats | head -20
    zmsoap -z GetLoggerStatsRequest stats/@name=zmmtastats @limit=1 | head -50

Hey thanks Crayz! I updated my profile too.

I'll take a look at the link you posted right now ... meanwhile:

Hmmm. Interesting to see where the outputs differ. Now if only we could get the same results from a working Ubuntu/Debian system to compare.

The one thing that stands out to me with your results is that the hostnames listed in the two zmsoap outputs do not match. I'm assuming your server is NOT mail.rs.exampl.com. So there may be a possible configuration issue there.

Comparing your results to mine, there are a few things that I noticed about my server:

    1. The zmlogger service on my server has died for some reason, hence why it's a zombie process.

    2. It may be related to the failure below of the zmrrdfetch script. Debian 5 (Lenny) has Perl 5.10.0-19 shipped with it, while Debian 6 (Squeeze) has Perl 5.10.1. Ubuntu 10.04 also ships with Perl 5.10.1. So I'm not sure why I'm getting this particular error on zmrrdfetch, unless it's some cruft that was carried over from the OSX 10.4 ZCS 6.0 installation I upgraded/migrated.

Well, I'm going to look through some of the troubleshooting steps suggested in other threads and come back to this...

    Code:

Hmm. Looking at this some more, I think we may have totally different issues.

When I installed version 6 initially, I had the "all services showing red X" problem although everything ran. Then when I upgraded to version 7.1.4, it began showing the following message:

"Server status data is not available. To see the server status, logger service must be installed."

Some searching turned up these links:
    http://www.zimbra.com/forums/install...ervices-2.html
    http://www.zimbra.com/forums/174911-post16.html

Following the directions in the second link meant following these steps first:
Mail Queue Monitoring - Zimbra :: Wiki
and then continuing as above. I had to patch the zmsyslogsetup script to recognize DEBIAN6 as using rsyslogd (minor -- it only affected whether it would report the PID of the rsyslogd process; the details are on my notes
wiki page), but other than that, there has been no change.

    Back to your issue:

Try to make sure that your domain name information is completely in sync on your server. Zimbra is very intolerant of domain name mismatches, to the point that if you don't have an internal DNS server on your network, you may want to install one on your server to provide split DNS.

    Try checking your syslog-ng.conf

Mine was messed-up, and I had the same issue as you.

I replaced my entries in syslog with this :

    source src { unix-stream("/dev/log" keep-alive(yes) max-connections(128)); }; # zimbra

    filter f_local0 { facility(local0); }; # zimbra
    filter f_local1 { facility(local1); }; # zimbra
    destination zmail { file("/var/log/zimbra.log" owner("zimbra") ); }; # zimbra
    destination zmstats { file("/var/log/zimbra-stats.log" owner("zimbra") ); }; # zimbra
    log { source(src); filter(f_mail); destination(zmail); }; # zimbra
    destination local0 { file("/var/log/zimbra.log" owner("zimbra") ); }; # zimbra
    log { source(src); filter(f_local0); destination(local0); }; # zimbra
    log { source(src); filter(f_local1); destination(zmstats); }; # zimbra
    filter f_auth { facility(auth); }; # zimbra
    destination zmauth { file("/var/log/zimbra.log" owner("zimbra") ); }; # zimbra
    log { source(src); filter(f_auth); destination(zmauth); }; # zimbra
And after restarting syslog-ng service, it was working fine again.

    Hope it helps.

Make sure your ssh keys are up-to-date. "zmupdateauthkeys" on each server. Also, check that "zmprov gcf zimbraLogHostname" returns the name of the server you have zimbra-logger installed on.

Although I doubt it will help morrisjones, since he has a fresh Zimbra installation, I've resolved my own server issues and posted the notes on my Wiki page: Crayz9000-Notes - Zimbra :: Wiki

The culprit in my case turned out to be bad RRDs from my previous migration. Oops.

The below thread has some more suggestions for morris's specific problem. I see you guys already posted a couple of them, but anyway...
