Default Why zimra hangs up while installing in Virtaulized environment

    Hi Folks,

This is not once, twice or thrice but continuously the Zimbra FOSS 7.2 hangs up when I try to install on VMware workstation 8.0, I'll have to kill the session and then use zmsetup.pl to rerun.

Any clue why such behavior? I tried isntalling on physical server and didn't find a single such instance where installation went smoothly. Not sure if zimbra can not be virtualized, can it ?

Are threre any logs available to debug the issue?

BTW not just with VMware Workstation even I tried with ESXi 5.0 on multiple platforms and it just hangs up.

'Course it can. We run it under kvm here.

It hangs at any stage not any such particular point where I could ping point. Even I tired with Xen and same result. Initially I thought it could be issue with ESXi or workstation but even Xen is showing same symptoms. But if I directly install as I explained earlier it just runs perfectly.

BTW which flavor you have virtualized OSS or NE? Is it something that OSS can not be virtualized?

    I wouldn't have thought so.
I'm using NE on Ubuntu 10.04 64 Bit guest. The host is a Debian stable machine.

I've done quite a few trial installs recently on 10.04 and not encountered any issues.

I've installed 6.x & 7.x releases of NE & OSS ZCS (32bit & 64bit) on VMware ESXi 4 & 5 and Workstation 8.0x without problems - the ZCS installs includes RHEL, CentOS & Ubuntu versions. They all work without problems.

    Hi,
I used it under Citrix XenServer Host, in a RHEL 5.4x64 guest OS
for 1-1,5 year I used the community edition (ver 6.x), without any problem
Recently (4-5 months) I upgraded to Network Edition ver 7.1.3.
    Small install though (1 server, 2vCPUs , 8GB RAM, 270 users)

I've also tried the VMmachine for testing purposes in an ESXi 4.x environment, works fine too

Try to check your virtual infrastructure for any symptoms, and repeat the install,

    :-)
being a new in linux , I was surprised to see the performance at these levels ....
Everything works fine, no issues from users, except from some that connect through IMAP+MSOutlook where sometimes the initial logon to zimbra waits several seconds to synchronize IMAP folders ....
Everything else runs smoothly ... (I have a very "mixed" client environment , Webmail, Thunderbird, MSOutlook ... )
