Default Any reason not to disable X-Originating-IP

Just learnt about this option and as the title says I'd like to know if there are any reasons not to disable showing the IP of the sender?

Whilst on the topic of IPs shown in the header. Should I consider hiding the LAN IP of the Zimbra server?

    Thanks

Only if you're an ISP and want to see the IP address of mail going through your system.

No, as far as I'm concerned it's a waste of time hiding a private IP address (assuming it's not visible to the world and even then it doesn't necessarily matter.

phoenix, so disabling X-Originating-IP removes more than that particular tag in the header, e.g. IP information in log files?

    Do you disable it?

No, just the IP - I didn't imply anything else.

No. As I mentioned, in my opinion it serves no useful purpose hiding an internal IP address.

Hmm I'm confused. If I disable X-Originating-IP it removes the sending client's public IP from the header!

    When you said,

If disabling X-Originating-IP only removes the tag with the client's public IP in the header than why would an ISP of a Zimbra mail system not "...see the IP address of mail going through [their] system."

As you were asking about removing the LAN IP from the headers I assumed you were talking about the x-originating-ip in relation to that.

The x-originating-ip will contain the IP address of the user when they submit email through your server, if it's a LAN user it will ba a LAN IP address and if they're sending from outside then it will be whatever IP they're on at the time.
