    Default [Solved] Getting errors on start up zimbra

    I install Zimbra on Unbuntu 10.04 went though fine set the host name to what it should be but when I go to check the mx records in zimbra admin I get
    failed to retrieve mx records for domain
    when I do a dig on the domain I get this
    [quote]
    client@mail:~$ dig hcc.hilltopchurchnet.net mx

    ; <<>> DiG 9.7.0-P1 <<>> hcc.hilltopchurchnet.net mx
    ;; global options: +cmd
    ;; Got answer:
    ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 16538

    ;; QUESTION SECTION:

    ;; ANSWER SECTION:
    hcc.hilltopchurchnet.net. 3600 IN MX 10 mail.hcc.hilltopchurchnet.net.

    ;; ADDITIONAL SECTION:
    mail.hcc.hilltopchurchnet.net. 3600 IN A 192.168.30.3

    ;; WHEN: Thu May 31 04:28:41 2012
    ;; MSG SIZE rcvd: 79
    [/qoute]

    Also when I go to save something under the domain I get
    The specified domain does not exist
    But under domains the domain is there as the first domain.

    Anyone have any ideas on this?

    Also zmcontrol does not appear to work when trying to use it I get
    $ zmcontrol status
    zmcontrol: command not found
    If I get these three things squared away I should be good.

    Hi Michael,

    Let's check that your DNS is setup right.

    Post your results for the following commands:

    Code:
    cat /etc/hosts
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
    host `hostname`
    By the way is your server behind NAT and if so do you have split-DNS configured on your LAN?

    Are you running zmcontrol as the zimbra user? You need to do it like this:
    Code:
    sudo su - zimbra
    zmcontrol status

    cat /etc/hosts

    $ cat /etc/hosts
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    192.168.30.3 mail.hcc.hilltopchurchnet.net mail

    # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
    ::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
    fe00::0 ip6-localnet
    ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
    ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
    ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
    $ cat /etc/resolv.conf
    search hcc.hilltopchurchnet.net
    nameserver 192.168.128.230
    host `hostname`
    $ host `hostname`
    mail.hcc.hilltopchurchnet.net has address 192.168.30.3
    I setup the dns using webmin to bind the dns.

    Ahh yeah I did that wrong to get to zimbra user.

    Michael,

    First your "double" subdomain, e.g. mail.hcc.hilltopchurchnet.net seems odd (but I may be wrong). Are you sure this shouldn't be

    mail.hilltopchurchnet.net

    or

    hcc.hilltopchurchnet.net

    which ever your prefer making mail or hcc the hostname of your Zimbra server?

    In any case your hosts file is incorrect. The first line should read,

    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

    Apart from that it looks OK!

    The domain is hilltopchurchnet.net but they using dyndns so the hcc points to the internal router which is answering so the server will be mail.hcc.hilltopchurchnet.net trust me it is a little weird to see it as well as type it, but it works.

    Ok I've not seen that before that's why I wasn't sure.

    Anyway, has your problem been resolved?

    Yep that worked I set the host file up like so

    $ cat /etc/hosts
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    192.168.30.3 hcc.hilltopchurchnet.net mail

    # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
    ::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
    fe00::0 ip6-localnet
    ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
    ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
    ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
    And that got it to work and when I click check mx records it came back and said they past it is the little things that gethca with email

    Thanks for the help
