Default Upgrade from 5.0.16 to 7.0 and switch server

Hello Zimbra and thanks for a great software.

Im running a zimbra 5.0.16 and have some hardware issues on the machine so Im going to move it to another machine and ehrm upgrade to currentversion of zimbra and suse.

I just would like to double-check to avoid pitfalls when upgrading from OLD to NEW.

Im backing up /opt/zimbra every night to BACKUP with rsync -avHK

    - Setting same hostname on NEW as OLD
    - Using a new ip on NEW (not same as OLD) (Im using local ip behind FW)
    - Pack up backup on NEW
    - Download current version to NEW
    - Start the install script
    - Change natting in the FW

This should make everything run nice and easy right?

Again, thanks for a great software.

It sounds like you might have already read through the relevant articles on the wiki, but here are the highlights:

Moving ZCS to New Server - Zimbra :: Wiki
    Ajcody-Notes-Server-Move - Zimbra :: Wiki

    Two important notes:
    1. The quick tutorials above deal with moving to a server running the same architecture as the old one. Switching platforms or going from 32 to 64-bit is a lot more fun.
    2. You should install the same version (5.0.16) on the new server before copying the backup data to the Zimbra installation. Otherwise, the installer may not realize there's already data and can potentially clobber it.

Once you've done that, then you can go ahead and update to the latest version. I'm not sure if you can skip directly to 7.2 or if you need to upgrade to 6.0 before doing so.

Hello Crayz9000 and thanks for replay!

Yes, I have been both searching and reading the wiki. But it couldnt hurt to double-check.

So you suggest I install the 5.0.16 on NEW. I thought I get the complete installation from the backup? Or did I missunderstand something?

Is it better to shut down zimbra and take a cp -r copy of /opt/zimbra?

    Thanks for answering.
